Famous for its cups of tea, Front of House atmosphere and rickety black box theatre, DU Players is Europe’s Largest and Most Active Drama Society. Since the pandemic hit alone, Players has produced and promoted over 60 virtual productions ranging from radio drama soap operas to 24-hour musicals to intimately searing short filmed theatre pieces. We’ve also run ten virtual theatre courses, five online theatre festivals and a non-stop almost twice weekly roster of interactive virtual events. All that in a pandemic? Damn right, honey.
Over the past few years, Players has come to embody a spirit of inclusivity and accessibility. We pride ourselves on running a diverse, non-stop programme of shows which allow our members from all walks of life to experiment, create and innovate on our virtual and physical stages. The great joy of DU Players is in providing a space and a platform for theatre makers to be introduced to the form and to hone their craft, a space for experimentation without limitations and an atmosphere where failure is encouraged and welcomed as a chance to learn more and more and more. And of course, it is above all just a wonderful place for meeting like minded people and for finding a vital sense of community - more important now than ever.
Players alumni include such famous faces as Ruth Negga, Tom Vaughan Lawlor, Alan Leech, Pauline McLynn, Dominic West, Lynn Parker and so many others. We are thrilled and excited to be hosting the Virtual ISDA Festival 2021 and hope you all enjoy the crazy online ride.
